Tractors

TractorOne of our most successful recent applications is the Metton® (DCPD) engine hood bonding for the John Deere 6000 tractor series.

Wayand, the supplier of these engine hoods have chosen PLEXUS MA420 to bond all omegas and inserts into the one piece outer skin of the engine hood.

The advantage of fast curing at room temperature, minimal surface preparation, the ability of the bonding and the high impact-resistant were only a few reasons to choose Plexus MA420 for the application.

The whole bonding application is done with a 3D multiaxial robot and a piston pump dispensing machine and takes only few minutes to bond all 7 parts into the hood.

John Deere & Company is the world's leading producer of equipment for agriculture and forestry.

Wayand GmbH is a medium-sized plastic processing firm with over 400 employees located in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. Wayand provides the automobile industry and the commercial and agricultural vehicle industries with interior and exterior accessories for small and medium production series.

Plexus Speeds up Door Production

Composite Doors (doors made from a combination of materials) have been bonded for more than 10 years with Plexus adhesives. In recent years the demand for Plexus adhesives in this market has increased exponentially. This is due to two main reasons; the growth in the market place and the improvements that can be achieved in productivity, performance and quality with Plexus adhesives.

Plexus adhesives are used to increase bond strengths over conventional adhesive systems and with total cycle times below 15 minutes increases in productivity are always seen. Plexus adhesive systems can be fully automatic with robotic and dispensing equipment. Plexus adhesives can be bonded to metals and plastics without the need for primers or extensive surface preparation.

One recent development has been the adoption of low shrink products which improve the surface finish of doors even with low width plastics. This has enabled fabricators to use thinner plastics thus reducing costs and improving the thermoforming ability of the plastic. Plexus adhesives are resistant to paint bake cycles and so doors can be assembled to go through a final phase of painting. This improves the finish and reduces the risk of scratches.

The outlook for the door market appears to be strong for the coming years, with some customers turning their hand to door manufacture from other fabrication and new ventures starting to produce doors.

Innovia Shuttle Car

A recent application for Plexus adhesives is the INNOVIA Shuttle Car. This is for use at Airports and the first order will be for Dallas Fort Worth Airport. Two products are used on this application, MA 425 for bonding the GRP body to the chassis and MA320 which is used to bond various parts of the interior of the Shuttle Car.
