| Frequently Asked Questions
What materials can be bonded with Plexus?
Nearly all metals, most thermoplastics, and composite
materials.
What are typical applications for bonding with Plexus
adhesives?
Plexus adhesives are toughened adhesives designed for
structural bonding applications. Typical applications
include joining many thermoplastic assemblies in automobiles
such as dashboards, knee bolsters and bumpers. The Class 8
Heavy Duty truck industry uses Plexus for bonding together
cab and sleeper assemblies made of FRP or SMC. The use of
Plexus adhesives is revolutionizing fiberglass boat
construction by dramatically speeding and simplifying
production.
What materials will Plexus adhesive not bond?
Plexus adhesives will not bond the usual materials that
are designed to resist adhesive bonding such as Teflon,
polyethylene, polypropylene, and Delrin. In addition, Plexus
adhesives are not designed for bonding rubber materials.
Are there any materials that deserve special
consideration prior to bonding with Plexus adhesives?
Yes. Nearly anything to be bonded with Plexus adhesives
ought to be carefully evaluated beforehand. Though Plexus
has been successfully used many times for bonding nylon,
polystyrene, polycarbonate, and ABS, care must be taken in
correct Plexus product selection because these plastics are
prone to crazing and stress-cracking. For these reasons, the
ITW Plexus technical service laboratory is available to
assist you at all times.
